Residents of Ikorodu have been assured that there is no cause to worry over the lead smelting and acid -waste industrial activities in Ogijo, a border town to Ikorodu though located under Ogun State.
The Lagos State Government gave the assurance through the Ikorodu Federal representative, Rep. Babajimi Benson, who had called the Commissioner for Environment, Dr Tokunbo Wahab, expressed his concern after a viral video on the Internet showing lead smelting and acid -waste operation in Ogijo.
Rep. Benson in a statement today, clarified that the Lagos State commissioner for environment gave him assurance that there is no cause for any worry because the state government had taken proactive measures five years ago.

“The viral video showing lead smelting and acid-waste recycling activities in Ogijo, our neighbouring community in Ogun State, is deeply concerning.
“While Ogijo is only a short distance from Ikorodu Federal Constituency, I was relieved after speaking to our proactive Honourable Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Tokunbo Wahab, who clarified that the Lagos State Government had already taken proactive steps five years ago by shutting down similar factories attempting to establish operations in Ikorodu – a move that ultimately pushed them to relocate to Ogijo.

“I commend the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for their vigilance, foresight, and unwavering commitment to safeguarding our environment.”
The lawmaker urged residents of Ikorodu Federal Constituency to remain vigilant at everything happening around them.
“Please stay safe, remain vigilant, and report any environmental concerns to the appropriate State authorities promptly.”
